A HIGHER VIEW: FORM, REFLECTION + INFILL
This video offers a rare bird’s eye view of the Sackville development and highlights the architectural thinking behind the project.
Although the site has no direct street frontage, the design responds carefully to its surrounding context. Rather than reading as a single bulk, the buildings are broken into three distinct pavilions. This articulation of form reduces perceived scale, improves daylight access, and allows the development to sit more comfortably within the existing neighbourhood fabric.
Variation in massing and roof form gives each pavilion a clear identity while maintaining a cohesive overall composition. The mirrored plan arrangement introduces a clear architectural order, with the central mirror line creating moments of symmetry and reflection that add precision and edge, particularly when viewed from above.
The project demonstrates that high quality infill housing is not defined by street presence alone. Through considered massing, proportion and alignment, Sackville shows how architecture can contribute positively to its context even when operating away from the public frontage.
